Friday, 21 October 2005.
Coventry City's new Ricoh Arena will host The FA's Moving Football Forward conference, where prominent national football figures will highlight key challenges facing the sport.
The diverse mix of speakers will participate in three day-long conferences, dealing with issues such as Child Protection, Coaching, Homophobia and Refereeing.
Starting on Monday 31 October, senior FA figures will hold a psychology conference where delegates take part in presentations and workshops, helping coaches to deliver appropriate mental skills for developing players.
On Tuesday 1 November the emphasis is child protection in football. This has been a high-profile media topic recently following the Independent Football Commission’s special report on the issue last month.
Professor Al Ansley-Green, Children’s Commissioner for England, will reveal his thoughts on the matter and the National Crime Squad will launch a joint initiative with The FA to tackle Internet abuse. There will also a Coaching Development session for Level 1 and Level 2 coaches which will be attended by Sir Trevor Brooking.
Finally, on Wednesday 2 November, the summit will tackle the issues of mental health and homophobia in football. The morning will see mental health practitioners explain how football can be used as a positive tool for mental well-being, whilst the afternoon session will debate how the sport should be tackling homophobia with Martin Perry, Chief Executive of Brighton and Hove Albion FC.
