Adam Crozier, Chief Executive of The Football Association has joined FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter in an appeal for good sportsmanship on FIFA World Fair Play Day.
England will be playing its part in the fourth FIFA Fair Play Day, to be held worldwide this weekend.
"Fair Play is an important aspect of football in England, as it is throughout the world," said Adam Crozier. "As we try to improve standards in our game, it is essential that we never lose sight of the need to develop the Fair Play idea with our skills."
"Fair Play Day helps strengthen this idea, as we know that we are not alone in our efforts to keep the game fair and clean."
FIFA President Blatter called for football authorities around the world to remember their duties towards Fair Play.
"This is not something that only concerns players," said Mr Blatter. "It's a joint effort. We need referees to apply the rules properly and equally. We need spectators to respect both teams in a match. We need the media to emphasise the good points of the game and to fight the bad ones."
"But I would say that above all else, we need coaches to take their responsibility and to remind their players of the need to play fair and to set good examples, especially to younger fans."
This year's Fair Play Day is the fourth since FIFA introduced the concept in 1997. In previous years, teams at all levels of the game have observed the day with a wide variety of activities, ranging from children's matches to First Division games, as well as community-based projects.
