The London based outfit, who play regularly in Division One of the Middlesex County Football League, went into the tournament as holders but lost their cup crown to local side, Los Dogos, in the Buenos Aries final which was refereed by The FA’s Football For All ambassador, Dave Raval.

Over 20 teams from around the world took part in this year’s competition with represented nations including Boliva, Iceland, Mexico, Montreal, Uruguay, USA, Canada and England.

Los Dogos took Stonewall’s title with a solitary goal in the second half but, despite the 1-0 defeat, Stonewall manager, Eric Armanazi, was pleased with his side’s display throughout the tournament.

“The spirit of the team was amazing and the football we played was of a high quality," he said.

“We won gold in Chicago last year and have now picked up silver in South America which is remarkable and I would like to thank the other teams who came to support our games in the later stages of the competition.

“Stonewall continue to do the UK proud on and off the pitch!”

Dave Raval believes that this year’s World Championship was one of the best to date.

“The event was fantastic - The local Government had built brand new pitches and provided a motorcycle police escort to get the team coaches through the rush hour traffic.

“There were over 100 journalists, photographers and TV crews at the Final and there was even a military aircraft display which flew over the top of the Belgrano Stadium before the game,” said Dave, whose World Championship Final refereeing team included London FA’s Paul Miller on the line.

The World Championships, which have been running for the past decade, will be in London’s Regents Park next year with Soho Square helping the International Gay & Lesbian Football Association win the 2008 bid.
