Wednesday, 16 October 2002.

The England v Macedonia match sees the launch of the National Anti-racism Week of Action in football, which will see events taking place around the country, both at professional football games and within the community.
The campaign has the active support of Sven-Goran Eriksson and the England players, and has been brought into sharper focus following the incidents at the match against Slovakia.
At half-time during tonight's match, Saints and England legend Matt Le Tissier will be on the pitch to present prizes to the winners of a Primary Schools Competition organised by Kick It Out.
More than 1800 entries for the competition were received, and Matt will be presenting the prizes to 4 regional winners and the overall winner, Elizabeth Lomax from Bolton, who designed a poster on the theme of kicking racism out of football.
The Week of Action, is organised by Kick It Out, which runs the Let's Kick Racism Out of Football campaign., and is apart of a series of events being held across Europe. The Football Association is one of the key funding partners of Kick It Out, with the football Foundation, Professional Footballers Association and FA Premier League.
Anti-racism day are being held by Premier League and Football League club around the country over the next two weekends, and there is a series of regional launches being held across England to promote the message of the campaign.
The week of action has also seen the awarding of grants to 36 community organisations with match funding provided by the Football Foundation. This will help them to plan a more meaningful, educational and sustainable activity in their local community. "The unhappy events at last weekend's England game show that the battle against racism is far from won," said F.A. Chairman Geoff Thompson, speaking at a reception hosted by Southampton City Council.
"But I think we can be proud of the record of achievement of the Let's Kick Racism out of Football campaign in this country in addressing the problem over the past 8 years.
"A huge amount of work is going on around the country to ensure that we push home the message that football welcomes everyone in the community, and that racism will not be tolerated."
