Gillingham striker Iwan Roberts.
Roberts charged
Tuesday, 31 August 2004.
The FA has charged Gillingham's Iwan Roberts with two breaches of FA Rule E3 in relation to his recently published autobiography "All I Want for Christmas", which refers to a particular tackle on Kevin Muscat, then of Wolverhampton Wanderers. Roberts was playing for Norwich City at the time of the incident.
The first charge alleges that Roberts' conduct on the field of play, in relation to this incident as described in the book, was improper.
The second charge relates to the fact that his conduct is improper in that he has published an account of the incident stating that his actions were motivated by an element of revenge.
He has until Monday 13 September to respond.
Note: FA Rule E3 is new for this season. It states that:
"A participant shall at all times act in the best interests of the game and shall not act in any manner which is improper or brings the game into disrepute or use any one, or a combination of, violent conduct, serious foul play, threatening, abusive, indecent or insulting words or behaviour."
Charges of improper conduct are not dealt with under the fast-track system.
