Hi, my name’s Adele and I’m part of The FA Customer Relations Unit along with Alex, Glenn, Koye, Meg and Tracey.
One of my earliest memories of football is sitting in front of a television screen in a friend’s front room completely transfixed by the game being introduced to me.
Football fans like yourselves appreciate the power of football; the passion, the determination, the enjoyment that a game of football creates.
We’ve all had moments that we can look back on and be thankful that the beautiful game exists; ranging from improving our mood after a good result through to being thankful for a universal language that unites all continents of the world.
My favourite football experience to date, without doubt, has got to be standing in the Ataturk Stadium in Istanbul watching Liverpool play in the 2005 Champions League Final. Seeing Alonso score from the rebound of his penalty miss I just knew the game was going to turn around and go our way. It’ll be a night that I’ll never forget and will always treasure.
A memorable moment for Alex is going to Sincil Bank on the last day of the season knowing Lincoln City had to beat Brighton at home and Torquay had to lose for Lincoln to go up. With the final whistle gone Lincoln won 2-0 and Alex had half the stand watching him clutch the radio on his mobile trying to get news of the Torquay result. They lost and Lincoln went up…
One of the many special footballing moments for Glenn was when he was eight years old watching Tottenham beat Nottingham Forest 2-1 in The 1991 FA Cup Final.
Favourite moments for Koye were when Newcastle beat Manchester United 5-0, when Faustino Asprilla scored a hat-trick against Barcelona and being at the Stade de France during the 1998 World Cup watching Nigeria. “The atmosphere was incredible and seeing so many passionate fans was great,” he said.
Tracey’s best memories are attending The World Cup Final in 1998 when France beat Brazil and the England v Holland match at Wembley in Euro ’96. On television Tracey just about remembers The World Cup in Spain in 1982 and Northern Ireland’s impact on the tournament.
Meg’s happiest footballing experience was accompanying her husband, friends and 9000 other Exeter City fans to Old Trafford for the third round of The 2005 FA Cup. They didn’t win but came very close and it was a great feeling to hear the Man Utd fans sing along. Of course, Meg’s next best moment was watching her beloved Arsenal win the double at Old Trafford in a pub in Islington.
