Mexico secured their place in the Olympic Final with the men’s team eliminating Japan despite going behind to a stunning early goal.

Japan wasted no time in taking control of the game and attacking Mexico inside the opening ten minutes with a number of long-range efforts giving fair warning to the Mexico 'keeper.

But on 13 minutes Mexico were punished for failing to get an early grip on their eager opponents. Yuki Otsu collected the ball 25-yards from goal and edged forward before unleashing a dipping half-volley that raced past Jesus Corona into the top corner for his third goal of the tournament.

Tottenham's Giovani dos Santos was the driving force behind resurgent Mexico and his corner was converted by Marco Fabian on the half-hour mark.

Dos Santos was later replaced due to injury but Mexico were able to continue their fightback. Oribe Peralta put his side in front before Javier Cortes's late goal, following a swift counter-attack, ended the tie.
