St. George's Park is now ready for business following its official opening by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
Almost four decades in the making, the £100m facility is finally ready for its official unveiling on Tuesday with some of the top names from the worlds of sport, politics and media in attendance.
But despite the enormous effort already taken in getting to this landmark moment in The FA’s history, St. George's Park Managing Director Harrington is keen to emphasise that St. George’s Park will not be judged on those past endeavours.
“We have got to remember that it is just one day and that St. George’s Park is a long term project,” she explains.
“[Today] gives us an opportunity to draw breath and reflect on everything we have achieved to date, but it really signals day one of the future.
“This is really a long term project, with long term aspirations; it is not going to deliver overnight.
“The real crux of St. George’s Park is about having more and better coaches out in the grassroots, delivering more talented players for the future.”
The centre has been lauded from figures across football for the quality of the facilities on offer to sports men and women at all levels.
Indeed, throughout the entire site there is a glistening array of the most advanced sports training and rehabilitation equipment in the world.
However, as Harrington explains, such committed investment in technology will be rendered meaningless unless the right philosophy can be ingrained in the centre.
“The facilities are outstanding, but they are still just buildings. It is really about the philosophy and the talent of the people working here to bring that philosophy to life.
“We know that the Future Game, The FA’s Technical Guide of how the game should be played in the future, is a brilliant resource.
“But embedding that into the entire team here and into St. George’s Park as a place to evangelise those key messages, I think, is going to be key.
“Over the coming weeks, months, years ahead it is about making sure that we are using all of our expertise to gain that winning edge.
“Other sports, British Cycling for example, have been using that philosophy of how you get that extra second and we hope that our squads are going to gain that extra competitive advantage in the weeks and years ahead."
