Spain's Technical Director to speak at The FA Licensed Coaches Club Conference

One of the men behind the recent successes of the Spain national teams will be giving FA Licensed Coaches a unique insight into the methods which have propelled them to become World and European Champions.

Gines Melendez Sotos, Technical Director at the Spanish FA, will be one of the main guests at this year’s FA Licensed Coaches’ Club conference at St. George's Park next week.

Sotos has been a fundamental part of Spain’s youth set-up overseeing the development of the likes of Andres Iniesta, Xavi Hernandez and David Silva.

He will speak at the Level 3 and 4 coaching event held at St.George’s Park, The FA’s new national football centre, on 3 and 4 December.

The Spaniard will be joined by Dr.Steve Peters, the acclaimed psychiatrist of the British Cycling and Sky ProCycling Teams, who has recently been employed at Liverpool by boss Brendan Rodgers.

Peters will outline the strategy that helped push Victoria Pendleton and Sir Chris Hoy to gold medal winning success, linking the principles of his mind management model ‘The Chimp Paradox’ to football.

The event is part of the ‘Shaping the Future’ coaching conference, which includes bespoke content tailored for coaches working at different levels.

On Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 December, Level 1 and 2 Licensed Coaches’ will hear from Jessica Ennis’s coach, Toni Minichiello, about the preparation and schedule undertaken by the heptathlete on her way to Olympic gold.

Coaches at the Level 1 and 2 event will also have the chance to observe the practices from some of the best youth developers in the country.

FA National coaching staff, Pete Sturgess and Paul Holder will be joined by Liverpool’s Academy Manager, Steve Cooper, and former Sunderland assistant manager and Manchester United youth team coach, Neil Bailey.
