A tutor training event designed to improve communication skills aimed at referees and those looking to become referee tutors was held at Suffolk FA.
Match Officials from across Eastern England attended the generic tutor training (GTT) on Sunday 9 January.
The all-day event focused on the Learning Cycle, the Presenter-Developer Continuum, questioning techniques, group motivation and development. It was led by Phil Knight, Suffolk FA Chief Executive, Colin Hills, Suffolk FA Referee Development Manager and Alan Young, Referee Development Officer at Cambridgeshire FA.
There were also some light hearted ice breakers which included a 'team' dance and referees recapped what they learnt from the morning session by giving three TV news style broadcasts - the likes of Huw Edwards and Natasha Kaplinsky will not be losing any sleep.
The session was designed both as a refresher for experienced tutors as well as a taster for those considering moving into referee tutoring.
Additional events are planned later in the year. Any referee interested in joining the referee tutor team should contact Colin Hills on 01449 776310 or email him at firstname.lastname@example.org
