Labour MPs Andy Burnham, Ed Balls and Clive Efford backed The FA and Mars' 'Just Play' campaign on Sunday, urging footballers of all ages to get back into the game.

Ahead of the Labour Party Conference in Manchester, the MPs were all part of the Labour team to take on the Press Lobby in their annual pre-Conference match and all were quick to encourage everyone around the country to keep on playing, whatever the level.

"There's nothing better, it gives you something to take the stress away and I've played football all of my life," admitted Burnham, Rt Hon MP for Leigh and the Shadow Secretary of State for Health.

"I find it really helpful in just getting away from things. It gets you together with your mates and I thoroughly recommend it."

Meanwhile, Rt Hon MP for Morley and Outwood and Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequor Balls hopes that seeing the politicians in action can help to inspire more people back into the game, regardless of age or fitness level.

"If you're going to have a mid-life crisis, you might as well enjoy it," he laughed. 

"And that's what we're doing, so I hope we're acting as an inspiration for other middle-aged people around the country."

Rt Hon Shadow Minister for Sport Efford has also seen the 'Just Play' campaign at work himself, after attending an event last week with England and Arsenal player Theo Walcott.  

"It's terrific fun and it was credit to Theo to turn up and encourage other people to do it," added the MP for Eltham.
