Stonewall FC successfully defended their title at European Gay Championship.

Stonewall FC, representing England, have successfully defended their title of European Gay Champions after defeating Italy (Milan) 3-2 in the Budapest sunshine on last weekend.

Stonewall FC, who were the tournament favorites, faced tough opposition against the Italians in the Final played in the Illovszky Rudolf Stadion. The victory followed a momentous comeback by Stonewall, who went down 2-0 but scored three goals in 15 minutes to secure the win.

Stonewall FC will be starting their season in the Middlesex County Football League (step 7) in August, the highest level of football achieved by a Gay team in the UK. The victory in Budapest maintains Stonewall FC status as the most successful gay football team in history.

Sponsored by Barclays, London based Stonewall FC continues to dominate the international gay football scene by winning all of the major competitions and they also play at the highest domestic level.

Doug Edward, Stonewall FC Captain commented on their latest success: “It was a great achievement and experience to win in Budapest as the standard was really high and we were playing in over 36 degree heat.

"It was fantastic for an Eastern European Country to host the gay sporting event. We see this as a victory both on and off the pitch.”
