Sunday saw the annual MPs v Press Lobby match in Manchester.

Last weekend saw Manchester play host to the Labour Party Conference, but aside from the usual speches, dinners and conferences, it also saw the annual match between the Labour MPs football team and the Press Lobby representatives.

Taking place at the Cliff, former training ground of Manchester United, it was a good day for the politicians too as they ran out convincing winners by 5-3 thanks to a brace from researcher Dave Hodges, MP Andy Burnham and a late double from Scottish MP John Park.

And despite a busy schedule for all of them, the team’s player manager Alan Keen, MP for Feltham and Heston revealed that there is a sizeable number of politicians prepared to get involved with playing football.

"We play five-a-side every Tuesday for an hour or so,” explained Keen to FATV.

"Because of the type of job that we have, we can't all attend every week, so there is a slightly spasmodic attendance from people and it's not the same fasces every week.”

When the chance comes to face the media though, there is never any shortage on interest from the MPs, with a competitive match always ensured.

"For the full size games like this, we play maybe ten games a season,” he added.

"We play the Police in Parliament and the chefs from Parliament.

"This one is our favourite though, we always love to beat the press and there is always a certain amount of rivalry between us!”
