The FA WSL
Continental Cup group stage
Sunday 19 May 2013
Liverpool, Arsenal and Lincoln Ladies are all through to the last four of The FA WSL Continental Cup following an exciting afternoon of action on Sunday.
The Merseysiders produced the most eye-catching result, hitting Chelsea for four.
Reds striker Natasha Dowie was too hot to handle for the Londoners in the first half as she grabbed a brace, while Nicole Rolser and Fara Williams grabbed further goals to seal the rout.
Meanwhile, Arsenal showcased their character and determination as they overturned a 2-1 deficit to storm to a 4-2 win at home to Bristol Academy.
Ellen White put the Gunners in front but the tie was turned on its head when Ellen Curson and Nicola Watts both netted to give Bristol the lead at the break.
However, Arsenal rallied after the interval and drew level through Jordan Nobbs.
And the Gunners turned one point into three as Danielle Carter and PFA Women’s Player of the Year Kim Little struck to clinch victory for the holders.
And England goalkeeper Karen Bardsley was in inspired form as she helped Lincoln grind out a 1-1 draw away at Birmingham City.
Lincoln, who only needed a point to advance to the last stage, fell behind early on when Jo Potter fired home from the edge of the box.
However, Carla Cantrell levelled after Remi Allen’s spot-kick was saved, while Bardsley produced a string of superb second half saves to safeguard the point for Lincoln.
