2012 was a great year for Women’s football.

Hope Powell led her England Women's team to qualification for a fifth successive major tournament.

They compete at the UEFA European Women's Championship Finals in Sweden in July and will be hoping to emulate their run four years ago in the same competition when they reached the Final.

Powell was also in charge of Team GB Women at London 2012, which featured 16 of her England stars.

They won all three group games, including a 1-0 win over Brazil at Wembley, before losing out to Canada in the quarter finals.

But the performances of England’s players last year shows a sign of the real progress the Women's game is making in our country.
