England v Portugal UEFA Under-17 Friendly Mini Tournament 1.30pm, 27 October 2006 Vise, Belgium
England Head Coach says Portugal will be a totally different side to the one the Three Lions hammered 4-0 less than two months ago.
That September afternoon in Swindon, Ashley Chambers hit a brace while further strikes from Steven Clancy and Victor Moses sealed a convincing victory - a result which ensured England finished The FA Friendly International Tournament as winners.
"They will be much stronger than when we played them in that tournament," warned Peacock.
"They will have made a few changes since we played them and drew 0-0 with Belgium in their first game of this tournament, so that shows they can be difficult to break down.
England will be hoping to bounce back from Wednesday’s 3-2 defeat to Spain – a team Peacock insists are the best in Europe.
Seth Nana Ofori-Twumasi and Henri Lansbury scored England’s goals but the young Lions struggled to contain their attack-minded opponents, particularly Barcelona starlet Bojan Krkic who scored twice to justify his billing as one of the most talented teenagers in world football.
England missed Michael Woods that evening – the Chelsea midfielder’s tenacity in the middle of the park is a key ingredient to the Lions’s play – but Peacock is pleased his stomach bug has cleared sufficiently for him to play on Friday.
Woods made an instant impact to life with England Under-17s, notching a double against Turkey in August – the first of which was a jinking run and blast into the top corner.
"We are pleased to have Michael back for the game," said Peacock.
Lansbury, a scoring substitute against Spain, starts against Spain as does Krystian Pearce, who is making his debut.
England team to face Portugal: 13 Jason Steele (Middlesbrough), 17 Liam Darville (Leeds United), 5 Jordan Spence (West Ham), 15 Krystian Pearce (Birmingham City), 3 Joseph Mattock (Leicester City), 4 Michael Woods (Chelsea), 14 Henri Lansbury (Arsenal), 7 Tristan Plummer (Bristol City), 10 Rhys Murphy (Arsenal), 9 Ashley Chambers (Leicester City), 16 Nathan Eccleston (Liverpool).
