TheFA.com has made its first signing of the season - Kris Commons.
The exciting Nottingham Forest midfielder has joined up to bring you a weekly column where he will talk about life at the City Ground.
This week he looks ahead to Sunday's FA Cup match with Salisbury City before reflecting on a childhood trying to impersonate his Forest heroes.
Hi everyone.
The FA Cup is special - it's one of the biggest cup competitions in the world.
My own experiences of playing in The Cup are limited, I've only played a few games, but it seems to bring out the best in me. Hopefully I can put in another good performance against Salisbury on Sunday.
When the draw for the Second Round was made I thought 'banana skin'.
We are expecting to beat them but there is always the chance of an upset. That's the beauty of The FA Cup. This is their big day. They will be thinking if they can get past us then they have a chance of drawing a massive club. We need to get a couple of goals early to quieten the crowd down, but if they score early it could be a long 90 minutes.
Against Yeading in the First Round, they came at us and put us under pressure. They had a couple of corners and knocked the ball around. I was thinking 'this is going to be one of those games'. But I scored against the run of play and their heads dropped.
You have to show teams like Yeading and Salisbury respect. If I was approaching the game as a Yeading or Salisbury player, I would be thinking this is my opportunity to show what I can do. It's my chance to show I can play at a higher level. That's how I would look at it. They will be revved up.
Against Yeading our manager said we need to show them we mean business. We will have to do the same on Sunday.
I played against Spurs in The Cup a couple of seasons ago. We drew 1-1 and I remember walking off the pitch with Michael Carrick, I was after his shirt. I had wasted a great chance to score for us. I should have scored. Paul Robinson made a couple of good saves but if I had just used my head I could have scored.
After the game everyone was saying I had done well. I watched Match of the Day and Gary Lineker said I was one to watch. I was getting good reports in the papers too. I thought I played OK. They had Carrick and Ledley King - players who have played for England, but all I could think about afterwards was that I should have scored.
I missed the replay. I had a slight injury and the manager said he did not want to risk me. We were second or third bottom in the Championship at the time and the league was our priority.
I'm a Forest fan and they have been like a yo-yo since I have been watching them. I remember watching the 1991 Cup Final when we lost to Spurs. There was Des Walker's own goal and Stuart Pearce's free-kick. As a free-kick taker myself, that is the sort of stage I want to be taking free-kicks on.
I could never watch a full match when I was younger though. Whenever I saw a goal I would go out into the garden with my brother and try and copy my heroes.
