Steve McClaren, appointed the new England Head Coach in 2006.

On 4 May 2006 Steve McClaren was confirmed as the England Head Coach, replacing Sven-Goran Eriksson and began his role at Soho Square on 1 August.
McClaren had been part of the England set-up since October 2000 as Assistant Coach to Eriksson, excluding a period between October 2002 and May 2004.
He was part of the coaching team at the World Cups in 2002, Korea/Japan, and 2006, Germany, as well as Euro 2004 in Portugal. He combined this role with his position as manager of Middlesbrough FC, which he has held since the summer of 2001.

Joined Hull City as an apprentice and spent seven seasons at Boothferry Park before joining Derby County.
After a successful stay at the Baseball Ground, McClaren had brief stints with Lincoln and Bristol City before moving to Oxford.
His career was ended by a back injury at the age of just 27. Highlights from his playing days included winning the Second Division title with Derby.
He scored 18 goals from midfield in a career that spanned 305 appearances.

1992-95: Handed youth/reserve team coach position at Oxford working alongside Brian Horton, the late Maurice Evans and Denis Smith at the Manor Ground.
1995-99: Recruited by Derby and handed the role of first team coach/assistant manager at Pride Park working with Jim Smith as the club achieved a top-ten Premiership finish.
1999-01: Four years later he was appointed assistant manager to Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United and helped the club achieve an historic 'treble' - lifting the European Cup, FA Premier League and The FA Cup in 1999.
2000: After Kevin Keegan resigned from his post, McClaren assumed control alongside caretaker England manager Peter Taylor, prior to the appointment of Sven-Goran Eriksson.
2001: Succeeds former England captain Bryan Robson as Middlesbrough manager.
2004: Steers the Teesside club towards the first trophy of their history, the Carling Cup, beating Bolton 2-1 in the Cardiff final.
2006: McClaren assembled an entertaining, potent team, full of youth, and guided Boro to the UEFA Cup Final where they finished runners-up to Seville.
They also reached the Semi-Final of The FA Cup before narrowly losing to West Ham United.
On 4 May it was announced that Steve would become the new England Head Coach.
Arrived at Soho Square on Tuesday 1 August 2006 for his first day in his new job.
Took charge for the first time on 16 August 2006, leading England to a 4-0 win over Greece at Old Trafford.
