Aston Villa Ladies dedicated their 2-1 victory over Nottingham Forest to club captain Stiliyan Petrov who has been diagnosed with acute leukaemia.

The Ladies had extra reason to come away with all three points in the Women’s Premier League and show their support towards the Bulgarian international.

The whole team wore t-shirts saying ‘Get Well Stan’ and they paid their ultimate tribute by coming away with a win.

Goals from Dani Petrovic and Carly Davies made it an extra special day for the Midlands club.

Coventry City Ladies had to settle for a point in their 1-1 home draw with Barnet in the other Women‘s Premier League game played on Sunday.

Coventry manager Paul Cudby was forced to change his side due to injuries with Emma Hollingsworth, Emily Simpkins and Callen Barber all ruled out.

Barnet made them pay as they opened the scoring after just two minutes. After forcing two corners at the start of the game, the second paid off asVicky Boardman headed on and Sue Wood directed the ball into the net.

But Coventry hit back and forced an equaliser on 32 minutes. Jade Formaston sent a corner into the box and Courtney Sweetman-Kirk was held back inside the area. The referee Mr Jarrett had no hesitation in pointing to the spot.

Helen Dermody stepped up and cooly beat Rowlands to draw City level.

Coventry could have won the game in the second half, but both teams had to settle for a draw. This was Barnet’s last Premier League game of the season, while Coventry still have two games left to play.
