Watford continued their good early season form with a confident 2-0 victory away at Coventry City, which saw them leapfrog the Sky Blues into third place.

The Golden Girls took the lead in the tenth minute when Sarah Wiltshire scored directly from a corner.

Josie Green sealed the win four minutes after half-time, volleying home Kate Natkiel’s cross for her first Watford goal.

John Salomon’s side held on comfortably for the three points and he was pleased with the Hornets’ performance.

He said: “We are absolutely delighted today, not just with the result, but this was one of our better performances in the year I have been in charge.

“Coventry are a very good side, but we worked hard off the ball and kept the ball well when we had it.

“I’m very pleased with the way we defended as a team, with a new centre-back pairing today securing our first clean sheet of the season, and this is a really encouraging result and performance ahead of a very tough game next weekend against Sunderland.”
