Sunderland Womens manager Mick Mulhern has warned his side that Cardiff City will be out to spoil their season.

Mulhern's side are currently two points behind Leeds in The FA Women's Premier League and can secure their second successive title if they can win in South Wales on Sunday.

But second-bottom Cardiff are also desperate for the points as they battle to keep their place in The FA WPL. Mulhern told TheFA.com: "We beat Cardiff 2-0 at home but they were a tough, decent side. Nothing is finished yet, we haven't won anything.

"Cardiff will really want to win this one there's no doubt about it. They need results to make sure they don't go down. This isn't a foregone conclusion."

Mulhern, who guided his side to the title last year, is the master of deflecting the attention off his players to keep them relaxed.  But he admits even he has struggled to do so ahead of this season-defining clash.

"It has been difficult to keep a lid on it," he added. "It's obviously such an important game. I'm just trying to play it down at the end of the day. We've got to go there and do our jobs. If we don't do our job then obviously that's awful but we have to see how we go.

"I'll do the worrying, not the players. It is down to the preparation and we will be ready, it will come down to what we do on the day. It's only natural to have some nervous excitement but the good thing is we've been here before.

"We've had the promotion and Cup Final in 2009 and of course we won it last year so every one of this group have all been through similar occasions before. I'd like to think that experience will count but you never know what will happen on the day.

"We have been in pole position for such a long time that it would be a shame not to win it. I think we deserve to win it because of the football we've played throughout the season."
