Toffees head to Lionesses' lair

Table toppers ready for challenge from Everton.

Millwall Lionesses v Everton Ladies
The FA Women's Premier League
2pm, Sunday 11 October
Eden Park Avenue, Beckenham Town FC

It's not often that the team sitting at the top of the league are considered as the underdogs, but in this instance Millwall manager Aidan Boxall admits his side face a tough task when they come up against Everton Ladies this weekend.

The Lionesses, currently top of the Women's Premier League with 13 points from seven games, host tenth-placed Everton, in what will only be their second league game of the season following a 6-0 victory over Nottingham Forest.

"Everton are a quality team", Boxall said. "Quality players and a quality manager. It will be a very difficult game for us".

Despite losing 3-1 away at Chelsea on Wednesday night, Millwall remain in top spot, yet Boxall concedes that a top-six finish is a far more realistic aim.

"If I'm honest, we'd be happy to finish in the top six," he added. "We're competing with the likes of Leeds Carnegie and Doncaster Belles, and if we can finish above them, it will feel as though we have won the league."

Confidence is high in the Millwall camp and Boxall believes that anything is possible. "If we work really hard of course we could win," he continued. "But it certainly won't be easy".

Having played just one game all season the pressure is on the visitors to retain their 100per cent record, as the Merseyside outfit are tipped to challenge Arsenal, the current champions and favourites for the league title this season.

Boxall has no doubts that Everton are one of the strongest teams around and is tipping the Toffees for league success, "In my opinion, they are the best side in the country," he declared.
