Liverpool 0-3 Leeds United
The FA Tesco Women's Premier League
Sunday 20 January 2008
Skelmersdale United FC
Leeds United avenged their early season defeat to Liverpool with a convincing win, notching three goals and securing the all-important three points.
England international Sue Smith was heavily involved in each of the three goals, earning the penalty that saw Amanda Barr open the scoring, firing home herself before half-time and then playing her part in the build-up for the third goal.
Smith had an early chance to break the deadlock when she was played through on goal by Sophie Walton, only for a strong wind to carry the ball through to a grateful Liverpool goalkeeper.
Minutes later and Smith had a decisive intervention, taking the ball past the last defender only to be brought down and a penalty awarded. Amanda Barr stepped up and made no mistake from 12 yards.
Smith then scored with a terrific finish, cutting in on her left foot and chipping the ball over the stranded Liverpool 'keeper.
Just after half-time, Mel Sutcliffe came off the bench to seal the victory with another thumping finish.
