Arsenal Ladies manager Laura Harvey has warned her players that Liverpool will be out for a “scalp” when they clash on the closing weekend of the inaugural FA WSL season.

Arsenal know that victory over Liverpool will be enough to secure the title regardless of the other results across the country thanks to Thursday night’s win against Everton at Borehamwood.

Gunners star Kim Little drove home the only goal of the game to move Arsenal to the top of division and within one win of the first WSL crown.

But Harvey knows there is work to do against rock-bottom Liverpool on the final day.

“We’ve done our job in the last two games now and we’ve got one more left to go,” she said. “Liverpool will be tough and they’ll be out to scalp us and we know that. we will have to perform well on the day.”

On the Everton victory, Harvey added: “I thought the first half was played at an absolutely frightening tempo and credit to both teams for that. I thought there was a bit of quality lacking in the play but I think Everton probably shaded it.

“We reflected on some of the stuff at half-time and I think in the second half we were better and the tempo was still really high. But with two teams like this it will always be the fine bits of detail that win or lose you games.

“Kim Little popped up with a bit of quality to win it and I think luck was on our side at times and we needed a great save from Emma Byrne late on to keep it at 1-0.

"Those moments will win you football matches and hopefully push you on to win titles.”

Meanwhile Everton assistant manager Andy Spence thought his side were unlucky to lose the game after a dominant first-half display.

He said “I thought we did really well in the first half and we probably deserved to go in ahead at half time. But you’d expect Arsenal to respond because they recognised that we dominated the first half.

“It was probably the one time we let Kim get away and if you give her an opportunity 20 yards from goal, she has shown all season she has the quality to score.”
