Battle of the giants ends in stalemate

Helvecia and Spartans couldn't be separated in London Futsal clash.

Helvecia 2-2 Spartans
The FA National Futsal League - South
Sunday 28 February
The Score Centre, Leyton

The eagerly awaited clash of the top two teams in The FA National Futsal League South did not disappoint, as Spartans and Helvecia played out an enthralling 2-2 draw last Sunday at the Score Centre in Leyton.

Both sides had 100 per cent records going into the game, with Spartans just holding on to top spot by virtue of goal difference.

The game was played at high tempo throughout and saw both sides create chances in the opening minutes, with the goalkeepers having to pull off a number of saves to keep their teams in the game.

Helvecia opened the scoring midway through the first period though, when last season’s top scorer Raoni Medina broke free from the half-way line before rolling the ball past the oncoming keeper.

Spartans fought back and were level just before half time, with Hugo Costa finishing off a flowing move down the right flank. The second period saw both sides go in search of a winner with the rolling substitutions ensuring that there was no time to lose concentration.

It was Helvecia who once again went ahead, with Gelson Almeida on the scoresheet. This seemed to galvanise Spartans and they managed to draw level for the second time as Bruno Vitorino fired home off the post.

Elsewhere, London drew with Baltic 4-4, Kickers beat FC Enfield 10-4 and Genesis swept aside Brentford CST FC by 15-8.

The next round of league matches are on Sunday 14 March, full details can be found on FA Full-Time by clicking here.
