You can nominate your groundsman for an FA award.
Pitch for your groundsman
Thursday, 24 November 2005.
Here is your chance to recognise the work of your football club groundsmen - the unsung heroes of the grassroots game.
The FA's Groundsman of the Year is now in its fourth term, having been introduced to reward the hard work of club groundsmen up and down the land.
There are five categories of awards which are: Clubs at Step 1 and 2 (Conference and Conference North & South); Clubs at Step 3 and 4 (Northern Premier, Isthmian and Southern Premier and 1st Divisions); Clubs at Step 5 and 6; Clubs at Step 7 and below and local authorities.
If you would like to nominate your club groundsman (step 5 or below) or local authority for the award, please download an application form below and submit by Friday 16 December.
For clubs at step 1-4, please contact your league secretary for details of how to enter.
The top three groundsman in these categories will then go forward to national judging.
The judges are not only looking at the quality of the pitch, but also consider the groundsman's knowledge, the resources available to him, how often the pitch is used and whether he is full or part-time.
The winners of the county FA awards go through to the regional finals which are judged by members of the Institute of Groundsmanship during March.
The regional winners are announced at ceremonies during April. All regional winners then go forward to compete for the national awards and are invited to attend the National Ceremony at Windsor Racecourse. The national winners receive a trophy and travel vouchers for a overseas weekend break.
