The 11-a-side game that sustains so many clubs and provides a myriad of competitive and football development opportunities, has suffered significant reductions in adult male players and teams across London.
The Decline 11-a-side Football across London
Monday 4th October 2004
6pm - 9.30pm
Arsenal Football Club
Mezzanine Suite
Avenell Road N5 1BU
In September 2003, the Greater London Football Partnership (GLFP), held a conference at Arsenal FC to highlight the decline in 11-a-side male adult football across London. Nearly 100 people attended.
At that conference, we presented research that estimated around 600 less teams are playing adult male 11-a- side football in London than there were 10 years ago. At last year’s event, we also showcased the findings from the independent market research offering reasons for this decline and held workshops to find out the views of the key stakeholders in football across London.
This work enabled us to devise an Action Plan to reverse the decline and the purpose of the seminar is to provide a follow up to the 2003 conference, present the findings of further research and report on the implementation of our Action Plan.
We want to enthuse people about the future and make it clear what part they have to play in addressing the key issues as we move forward.
At the seminar you will find out about:
- The latest research on the lack of opportunities for 16 – 21 year olds
- The launch of the Fair Play Charter for London
- The publication of the "A-Z of Football in London" Directory
- The strategy to improve football facilities across London
- The impact of pilot projects across London
The work the FA are doing nationally You will also be able to participate in four key workshops that will help you improve 11-a-side football opportunities across London.
We hope that you will attend the seminar, participate in the workshops and continue to help us reverse the trend of decline in the 11-a-side game across London.
