Staffs schools' coaching lift
Thursday, 24 February 2005.
Charter Standard Community Club Brereton Social FC have recently been taking part in the FA School-Club Link programme organised through Staffordshire County Football Association.
Coaches from the club with help from students from Hagley Park Sports College, a Charter Standard Secondary School, have been going into a number of local Primary Schools to give one hour coaching sessions to six to eight year olds.
The coaching covered six weeks of the school term and has been hailed a great success by the Club! Over 150 young people have taken part from six schools, these were - Colwich, Colton, The Croft, Hob Hill, Chase View and Redbrook Hayes.
On the back of the coaching delivered in the schools, 37 children have expressed a wish to join Brereton Social FC to form new teams for the 2005/2006 season. However, equally and if not more importantly for the Club six adult volunteers have come forward to help manage the new teams as a result of this programme.
A mini-soccer festival is being arranged for the schools involved and will be held at the Club after February Half Term. This is being organised by the development team at Staffordshire Football Association in conjunction with the Sports College.
Club Secretary, Andy Matthews added "The Club are thrilled with the success of this first phase and believe the interest shown gives great hope for the future of our great national game"
