Wiltshire FA have been hosting a number of events in a bid to develop football in their primary schools.
In July, the Junior Football Organiser’s Festival took place at Greendown Community School, which also hosted the Charter Standard Event for the Wiltshire FA.
Greendown is a Charter Standard Development school, whose aim is to work with the community and FA partners to develop football in our primary schools.
Five local schools from West Swindon - Westlea, Windmill Hill, Peatmoor, Freshbrook and Tregoze - attended bringing 10 pupils from year 5, including a minimum of four girls.
Six year ten JFO coaches at the school ran the event, having learnt how to coach and manage young children and make training sessions fun, useful and safe.
Varying coaching drills including heading, dribbling, passing, shooting, goal keeping, control, and defensive play were staged in a bid to improve players’ football abilities.
After lunch was a seven-a-side tournament where all the schools played each other with four year 10 referees ensuring fair play.
Barry Stephens and Bev Maul attended the festival with Stephens updating the schools about the Charter Standard Award and its benefit.
All the children received certificates for completing the Junior Football Organisers Festival.
