The pack, which has been produced by The Football Association for children at Key Stage 2 (7-11-year-olds) of the National Curriculum, will be used to encourage learning through football and is available via the Schools Sport Partnership.

It contains a selection of useful football-themed teaching resources including lesson plans, classroom activities, wall-charts, posters and teacher booklets.

Jenny Bingham, teacher at St Mary’s RC Primary School, was on hand to give a demonstration lesson using the specially-produced pack, during which the Women's Euro 2005 Trophy was on display.

Children were able to learn anything from dietary requirements and exercise routines for science, as well as history of the women’s game and information on competing nations in their geography class.

The Rt Hon Ruth Kelly, said: "It is important that children are kept stimulated within learning environments in a structured and imaginative manner to encourage greater participation.

"Sport is such a powerful tool for education and the specially designed learning pack produced by The Football Association, is a fantastic example of how it can be used to maximum effect in the classroom.

"With Women's Euro 2005 just round the corner, children will be able to learn in an enjoyable way, whilst also learning more about women’s football and the 2005 UEFA European Women’s Championships."

Kelly Simmons, Head of Football Development at The FA, added: "We recognise what a great opportunity Women's Euro 2005 is to help with wider learning objectives within primary schools across England and came up with the concept of the schools pack.

"At a time when concern is being expressed about rising obesity levels in children, our new pack will help teachers to highlight the importance of physical activity in a healthy lifestyle.

"While having obvious educational benefits, it is also a good platform for raising awareness of women’s football, not just for adults, but the future generation of footballers."

Claire Massingham, Headteacher at St Mary's RC School, concluded: "The Women's Euro 2005 Schools Pack is a great means of linking children's recreational activities with important learning objectives.

"The materials within the packs have been imaginatively designed and I am positive they will be popular with children, both here and across the country. They will serve as a strong method of promoting the women's game to our future stars."

A total of 19,000 Schools Packs have been produced for primary schools across the country, which have been designed in conjunction with primary and secondary school teachers as part of The FA’s Football Development Programme*. Available free of charge via the Schools Sport Partnership, the packs can also be downloaded on TheFA.com.
