Hampshire sit just behind Birmingham in the total number of schools now signed up to the Charter Standard which is The FA's official kite mark for quality in the administration and coaching of football.

96 schools now enjoy the benefits of become a Charter Standard School in Hampshire which is just short of Birmingham with 122.

The scheme, which is free for Schools to apply for, acknowledges good practices in Primary, Secondary and Special Schools.

Also in the county recently was the annual Michael Austin Harlick / Hampshire Schools Sports Federation Presentation Evening at the Thornden School Theatre, which involved several members of the Olympic and Paralympic teams from Hampshire. The Hampshire Schools FA was well represented in the Honours List.

The winners of the President's Trophy, which is awarded for the outstanding team performance of the season from all the sports involved in the Federation, was won by the Portsmouth Schools Under 15 Football team who won the National Under 15 Competition for last season.

This was the first time that a Hampshire Association team had reached the Final (let alone won it) since 1957!

The single most outstanding performance by a schools' sports performer during last year for The Michael May Trophy was awarded to Leigh Mills.

Mills who went to the John Hanson School, Andover was given the award for his performance as Captain playing for the England Under 16 football team against Wales when he scored in the 4-2 victory.

He is now playing his football at Tottenham Hotspur and hopes to make the Reserves this year.

The H.S.F.A's Player of the Year Award went to Lyall Beazley who was at Horndean Community School and is now with A.F.C. Bournemouth and represented Wales at Under 16 Level last season.

Lyall played against Leigh Mills in the Wales v England match; both players were members of the County Schools Under 16 squad last season.
