Over the past two weeks 26 students at the college have been completing The FA Junior Football Organiser’s Course which has been run in conjunction with the Leicestershire FA.

The course is a pilot project run by The FA aimed at getting young people volunteering within local football clubs.

Tessa Payne, the County Development Manager explained "The Step into Sport Project is a great idea to link young students within schools into local football clubs.

"Many youngsters are keen to become involved in football as leaders and coaches and this programme provides the first step.

"Local football clubs are always in need of additional volunteers to help in the running of their clubs and this is a great opportunity for football clubs to harness the talents of young volunteers to assist them."

All the students have attended a 6.5 hr course under the guidance of their course tutor Rashid Mama and will then continue to develop their skills through a mentoring programme linked to their local Charter Standard Club, Leicester Bharat FC.

The students will have the opportunity to choose a variety of themes from assisting in coaching, running a football club and marketing and promotion and will complete 10 volunteer hours in the hope that many may then continue to remain involved within the football club in a variety of capacities.
