The proud volunteers on the pitch in Cardiff last Sunday.
Volunteers receive rewardTuesday, 10 August 2004.
Eleven Football Volunteers from around the country were recognised by The FA for their outstanding contribution to grassroots football at Sunday's FA Community Shield.
The FA’s prestigious annual Football Workforce Awards recognises the value of volunteers to the development of football at every level of the game.
This year's winners received VIP hospitality in Cardiff for the curtain-raiser between Arsenal and Manchester United, before being presented with their Awards on the pitch at half-time by Sir Trevor Brooking, The FA's Football Development Committee Chairman, Ray Berridge and McDonald's Director of Football, Sir Geoff Hurst.
On Friday we brought you the first six winners, and today we bring you the final five Award winners, all pictured above.
Brian Wilcox - West Riding FA
Brian has been rewarded for his outstanding contribution to Thorne Juniors FC, a team he formed in 1990 which has grown year on year and now boasts 20 teams covering Under 7s to Open Age including three girls teams. The club has developed enormously and even recently achieved The FA Charter Standard.
David Roberts - Leicestershire & Rutland FA
Rewarded for his outstanding contribution to Hinckley United FC’s successful application for FA Community Club status. Previously Club Treasurer and now Vice Chairman of the club, David has developed the club which has benefited the local community.
David has also successfully completed his Level 1 Coaching course and Disability in Football course.
Having formed and led the new Girls section, David’s enthusiasm and commitment to the club has seen him recruit new coaches, strengthen ties within the club and even launch the official Hinckley United website.
Karl Williamson - Cheshire FA
Rewarded for his outstanding contribution to the Chester and District junior football league.
Eighteen months ago, Karl saved the league from extinction and through determination and hard work, he has raised the participation level from 220 to 1500 children.
Karl’s commitment to the club has seen the introduction of mini soccer and ensured funding is channelled into football development where there is now more coaching and refereeing development as well as each team having their own child protection officer.
Karl is now looking to develop 17 and 18 year old football over the next two years.
Stuart Anderson - West Riding FA
17 year-old Stuart has been rewarded for his contribution to Ripon City Panthers FC where he is the assistant manager of three of the girls teams (U10, U12 and U14).
Stuart has been with the club since the age of eight after stopping playing at sixteen, he has passed his 1st For Sport Level 1 Managers certificate and qualified as a referee.
Stuart commits a lot of his time to the team and coaches three teams on a Saturday morning as well as refereeing on Sundays.
In addition to his involvement with the club, Stuart has helped establish two girls’ teams at Ripon Grammar School, a huge achievement for a school that is traditionally rugby orientated.
Thomas Waggott - Durham FA
Rewarded for his contribution to the Wear Valley Sunday League and his twenty-two years of uninterrupted service and hard work to enhance the reputation of the league.
He has been League Secretary since its formation in 1982 and his hard work, dedication and commitment has been instrumental in increasing the volume to three divisions.
Sir Trevor Brooking, FA Director of Football Development, who will be making the presentations at Cardiff, recognises the crucial role that volunteers play in football at all levels.
