Three time FA Cup winner Tony Adams visited Northgate Primary School to promote the first FA Cup Schools Day. |
The Dhoon School cleaned up at the Millennium Primary School Football Competition 2007, winning both the Tournament and the ‘Small Schools Group award’ which took place recently at the NSC and the Bowl in Douglas.
The competition, organised by Andrew Wadsworth and Natalie Cellamare of the IOMFA, included all 32 Primary Schools on the Island with 288 children taking part and was, as always, well supported by parents and spectators.
The schools were divided into four groups of eight and kicked off at 9.15am with every school battling it out for a place in the top two of their respective groups.
In the quarter-finals, Port St. Mary beat Ballasalla and Sulby defeated Onchan, both on Penalties after extra time. Kewaigue were narrowly defeated 1-0 by Ashley Hill, and Dhoon progressed to the Semi Finals with a 2-0 win over Ballacottier.
Port St. Mary booked their place in the final with a comprehensive 3-0 win over Ashley Hill, however the other Semi-Final was extremely tight, and could have gone either way, but it was the Dhoon School who prevailed after winning on penalties after a close and nervy 0-0 draw.
In a close final, the match went into extra-time with the score at 1-1. Very few chances were created meaning penalties were required to find a winner, Dhoon School holding their nerve to become the Millennium Primary School 2007 Champions, as well as being crowned ‘Small Schools Winners’.
The final presentations were made by Referees Darren Marsh, Kevin Giles and Beryl Giles with every competing child receiving an FA Schools Day goody bag.
