Northumberland Sport, in conjunction with Newcastle United Foundation, held a girls' football fun day at the indoor Willowburn Leisure Centre in Alnwick, with over 30 players in attendance for the free football coaching sessions on Thursday.

The day was aimed at girls aged 7-12 years old of all abilities, to help raise awareness of girls' football in Northumberland and it is hoped that the numbers taking up the sport will continue to grow over the coming months.

England midfielder Jill Scott was a special guest and was on hand to pass on valuable advice to the up and coming footballers and to answer any questions from the children.

Northumberland Sport Women’s & Girls' Football Development Officer Nicola Hepworth said:

"It was a fantastic day and an excellent opportunity for girls to be involved in such a prestigious event. The day was made even more special for all that attended with Jill being such a fantastic role model and a successful female player from our region."
