Futsal is the only indoor small-sided game approved by FIFA, UEFA and The FA and the grant award will help establish a full programme for primary and secondary schools within the partnership and target pupils in school years five to eight.

The project, in conjunction with the Sheffield & Hallamshire County FA, is aimed at schools in socially and economically deprived areas and hopes to improve the pupils’ levels of physical activity and self-esteem while encouraging integration and team-work through playing Futsal.

James Hope-Gill, Chief Executive of the County FA, said: “This funding is great news for the development of Futsal as it means that more children in more schools can learn about and play Futsal on a regular basis.

“The game helps improve co-ordination and skills as well as helping to build confidence in children.

“As a County FA we want to lead the way at every level of Futsal development throughout the country.”

The schools that will be involved in the project are:

Secondary: All Saints Sports College, Notre Dame, Stocksbridge High, Bradfield, Abbeydale, Park Academy.

Primary: Phillimore, Greenlands, Acres Hill, Pipworth, Wybourn, Emmaus, Prince Edward, Abourthorne, Bankwood, Norfolk, Valley Park, St Theresa’s.
