The FA Cup was on display at the Indian Muslim Welfare Society in Batley, West Yorkshire where Mount Pleasant Juniors hosted a Kick Racism Out Of Football mini soccer event along with several clubs from the RCD Huddersfield Junior Football League.

Over 100 children were involved in the anti-racism event which was part of the ‘One Game One Community’ Week of Action that’s run by Kick It Out and supported by The Football Association.

The FA marked the beginning of ‘One Game One Community’ with Sir Trevor Brooking helping to release a net of Kick It Out balloons before England’s 3-0 victory over Estonia at Wembley Stadium recently.

Mount Pleasant JFC coach and chairman, Yunus Lunat, commented: “The event was in keeping with the aims of our football club which is to use the game as a means of enabling children from diverse communities to engage in sport and friendship.”

The event also celebrated Muslim festival Eid ul Fitr and looked back on the importance of Ramadan which is a time of fasting and discipline in the Islamic calendar.

Taking part in the Mount Pleasant mini soccer event was Howden Clough JFC and their team manager, Bob Duffy, commented: “Our experience with the competition is one of fun, friendship and camaraderie and it’s a wonderful event that brings the local boys of mixed race and religions together.

“Everyone had a treat this year with The FA Cup on display and it was a real bonus to see it close up.”

Yunus Lunat added: “There was a real carnival atmosphere to the day because of a wedding that was taking place in the grounds of the venue.

“By the end of the event, most of the guests had heard that The FA Cup was on display and they all came over to have a look as well!”

Joining Mount Pleasant and Howden Clough at the event were Batley Juniors, Moorlands and Heckmonwike.
