Here is what he had to say:

Hello everyone,

It's been a hectic few weeks for us as it always is at this time of year and I think that we have to be reasonably pleased to come out of the period in the position that we are in, certainly when you consider the teams we have faced.

From the results side of things it was a bit of a mixed bag over the festive period, our first game was against Colchester at home which was a very tough game that we were delighted to pick up three points. We managed to scrape a win out of that game which is always pleasing.

We then went away to West Bromwich Albion who I really believe are one of the best teams in the Championship, certainly in terms of their squad.

We went 2-0 down early on and then we had Daniele Dichio sent off which made it very hard for us. But full credit to the players they never gave up and they got it back to 2-2 somehow with really battling qualities.

Unfortunately for us we then lost the game down to a couple of mistakes from our goalkeeper, but it's difficult to criticise him because he really has been in outstanding form for us all season.

In the end a 4-2 defeat was a little unfair on us and I don't think it tells the true story of the game, but we showed some great courage with ten men to battle back from 2-0 down.

We then went to Sunderland and put in a strong performance that I was really proud of and we came away with a well earned victory which was extremely satisfying because it's a tough place to go.

We've played them twice already this season now and we have won on both occasions, the first victory was not long after Roy Keane took over and we won 4-1 at our place.

I have seen a massive improvement in them since that game and I think Roy has really tried to stamp his mark on the whole club. They've even undergone changes since our match a week ago, they've brought in Carlos Edwards from Luton and Jonny Evans from Man Utd and a few other players have returned from loans so it could be a different side again this time around.

It will be a tough game on Saturday, I'm sure and there will certainly be an edge to the game which you always get when you come up against teams like Sunderland.

I love The FA Cup and I think it's a great competition to be involved in, I've had some great memories both as a player and a manager and I always relish this time of year for that very reason - I'd love a good Cup run this season.

In 1998 I got all the way to the Semi-Final with Wolverhampton Wanderers and we were unlucky to lose out to Arsenal on the day by a single goal. I also got through to the Fifth Round with Rochdale four years ago as a player/manager which was so exciting for me at that stage of my career.

January brings The FA Cup and nowadays it also brings the transfer window and clubs are always looking at this time of year to bring in additions to their squad.

Personally at Preston I'm quite confident in my players and the squad that we have so I wouldn't be too disappointed if we don't bring in anyone, but we'll see what happens.

I'm not completely sold on the idea of transfer windows but I think that to look at from the other perspective it stops a lot of transfer gossip. Most of it is unnecessary and it doesn't really help anyone, for example we've had a lot of stories about David Nugent but I'm not interested in letting him go.

He's a fantastic lad and he's doing really well for us at the moment, scoring goals and I hope that continues.
