Somerset football clubs can now change in luxury after the completion of a brand new clubhouse, part-funded by the Football Foundation, in Butleigh.
The Football Foundation have pumped £245,000 into the project which has now replaced the village’s dilapidated old wooden hut dressing rooms that were built in the mid-Forties and used up until the end of last season.
The project was put together by the Butleigh Playing Fields Association and FA Charter Standard club, Wessex Youth FC plus local school, Butleigh Primary, are now using the new facility on a regular basis.
Peter Coysh is chairman of the Butleigh Playing Fields Association and helped lead the community project from start to finish: “It was a long process with a lot of effort from many people and organisations but we now have a facility that has already been used extensively since it opened at the start of the season.
“The site is the focal point of activity for the community so we wanted to ensure that everyone was involved and can make use of the new pavilion.”
Both The Football Association and the Somerset County FA guided the organisation through the Football Foundation funding process while Mendip District Council and Somerset County Council helped get the project built.
