A key element in maintaining a committed and effective group of volunteer league officers is to be clear about their roles and not to over burden them with tasks outside these roles.

A number of leagues use job descriptions or role profiles to set out what is required of their volunteers, which are particularly useful when initially describing a role to a new volunteer.

FA Charter Standard Leagues



The FA Charter Standard League is a kitemark that sets an operational benchmark for FA sanctioned leagues.

Since its launch in 2009, 120 leagues have achieved the kitemark. It primarily offers leagues a process to raise standards and a practical means to deliver initiatives in line with the needs of member clubs.

Step 1 - 7



The National League System is the league structure for senior men’s football that sits directly below Football League Division Two.

It stretches from the Conference at Step 1 through to County Leagues at Step 7. In total 60 leagues featuring a total of 84 divisions provide a feeder system.

FULL-TIME



FULL-TIME is The FA’s online league administration system. It was launched in 2003 and is available free of charge to any league affiliated to a County FA.

It is used by league officials to manage the running of a league as well as generating a website for tables, results, news and statistics.

Grant Aid



IT-based league operations systems have become common place in football to ease the administrative burden on league officers.

To support leagues, The FA offers an IT grant to all sanctioned leagues outside the National League System (Step 1-7) and the Women’s Pyramid, for the purchase of IT hardware.

Respect Leagues



The FA is inviting every league in the country to sign-up to the principles of Respect and to introduce some practical steps at club level to ensure football is played in a safe, positive environment.

The programme is free and there are resources available to support leagues to introduce Respect.
