The mighty Quinns

Father and daughter combination officiate together in North Riding area.

Last month saw a unique occurrence in the refereeing world, as a father and daughter teamed up to officiate in the same game.

It happened on 21 April when Peter Quinn was joined by daughter Alice to take charge of a game between North Riding Ladies and West Riding Ladies in the first representative game in the history of the North Riding County FA.

Peter, a National List Level One Referee, was delighted with the opportunity to be joined by his daughter, a Junior Level Seven Referee, on the pitch and said: “When Alice started refereeing, I didn’t think this would happen as the opportunities to officiate together are very limited.

“I would like to thank the County Football Association for giving us this opportunity so early in Alice’s career and I hope that she can learn from this and go on to officiate at the highest level possible in the future.”

Ross Joyce, the North Riding CFA’s Referee Development Officer, added: “This is the first time this has happened in the County and was a momentous occasion for both father and daughter.”
