MP visits Fareham Skills set

Mark Hoban MP watches FA Skills session at local college.

Fareham MP Mark Hoban has visited Henry Cort Community College to watch The FA Tesco Skills Programme in action and meet local children from Oak Meadow Primary School, who took part in the session delivered by specialist FA coaches.

The FA Tesco Skills Programme has already provided 165,000 places on football skills courses in Hampshire, with 1.8 million places provided nationwide. The Hampshire Skills team are part of a total of 106 FA Skills coaches helping 5-11 year olds to improve their football skills throughout 26 counties in England, funded by investment from Tesco and Sport England.

The Hampshire Skills team works in schools like Oak Meadow across the County, as well as running after-school Skills Centres and free school holiday taster sessions, to give as many local children as possible the chance to get active and improve their football skills, whatever their ability.

Mark Hoban, also Financial Secretary to the Treasury, said: “The FA Tesco Skills Programme is ensuring that football is part of the community and part of the lives of the children who live here in Fareham. As well as improving their football skills, the programme is helping to keep these children fit and teach them key social skills like confidence and teamwork.”

John Ward, Chairman of Hampshire FA, added: “The Hampshire Skills team are an important part of the grassroots work The Football Association and Hampshire FA are doing to develop football in Fareham and the county. We aim to give everyone who lives in the county an opportunity to get involved in the game.”
