Therapeutic Use Exemptions

How to apply for an exemption to treat a medical condition.

The Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) process is a way in which a player can obtain approval to use a prescribed prohibited medication or method for the treatment of a legitimate medical condition.

If a player is prescribed a medication by a Doctor, they should first check to see if the medication is prohibited for use in football. Please see the Checking Your Medication section for detailed advice.

If the medication is not prohibited the player can start to use the prescribed medication or treatment.

If the medication is prohibited the player should ask the prescribing Doctor to check if there any alternative medications that are permitted for use in football.

If there are no alternatives the player should apply for an exemption to use the substance.

Please note that only certain players need to apply for a TUE. Please see the download below for further details.
