Hope's Centre visits

England Head Coach involved in National In-Service Training programme.

Some of the country's budding footballers were treated to a training session with England Head Coach Hope Powell and her coaching team recently.

The talented girls, aged between 12 and 16 and from the Centre Of Excellences at Watford, Middlesbrough and Aston Villa, were visited by Powell as part of the National In-Service Training programme.

Whilst the coaching sessions were being taken by Powell, they were observed by 73 coaches from The FA's Centre of Excellence programme who were there to study the sessions and take their learnings back to their own individual clubs.

The main themes of the sessions were understanding the international philosophy, aerobic conditioning, fitness testing and the importance of goalkeeping.

With many of the players in England's U17 and U20 squads which recently performed so admirably in their respective World Cups, having emerged from Centre Of Excellences, Powell now wants to see even more development taking place.

"We need to raise the bar even further," she said.

"What we do now will effect the future of the game - it will keep the girls playing at a higher level, strengthen our Women's leagues and may hopefully see us stand on a winning podium with our national teams one day."

The visiting coaches certainly reported plenty of positive feedback from the sessions and of you want more details on your local Centre Of Excellence, click here now.
