Boro demolished Jose Mourinho’s men to put memories of last week’s 4-0 home defeat against Aston Villa behind them.

England hopeful Stewart Downing hit Boro’s second while Fabio Rochemback and Yakubu were also on target in a remarkable result.

"What’s pleased me is that we stuck together in the dressing room," said manager Steve McClaren afterwards.

"I was so pleased for the players and so pleased for the fans. Now we need to keep it bubbling away and get more victories like that."

Other contenders for this week’s crown included Everton, who beat Blackburn 1-0 despite spending 84 minutes of the match with only ten men. And Fulham, who smashed West Brom 6-1 at Craven Cottage.

In the Championship, Preston’s 5-1 triumph over Luton stood out, while bottom-of-the-table MK Dons secured the result of the day in League One by beating in-form Blackpool 3-0. Once again striker Izale McLeod was the inspiration, scoring twice.

There must be something in the air for bottom-of-the-table teams because Stockport did the same in League Two, earning an excellent 2-1 away victory at Chester.

In the FA Vase, Hillingdon Borough are on the march and flying the flag for Middlesex after beating Mildenhall Town 4-0 to reach the quarter-finals.

Dave Lawrence scored twice to take his tally this season to an incredible 27 - with Danny Tilbury and Daryl Craft also on target.

All in all some excellent performances throughout the league and non-league. But no-one could quite top giving Chelsea a three-goal beating!
