There was an outside chance I would make the squad for last weekend’s game against Wolves, but I felt a bit stiff a few days before and decided to give it a miss as a precaution.

I have since enjoyed two very good full training sessions on Monday and Tuesday, so with a full week of them under my belt, I am hopeful of being in the party that travels down to London for our game against Arsenal this weekend.

It has been frustrating to see us fall off the pace a bit in recent weeks. We have held leads in the games against Charlton and Wolves, only to concede late equalisers. But we can’t feel too sorry for ourselves over these dropped points. Whatever happens, this has been a brilliant season for Birmingham City.

And let us not forget we still have a good chance of finishing sixth in the Premiership and earning a place in the UEFA Cup next season. However, to achieve that we really must take maximum points from our last three games.

Of course, this is easier said than done, especially when you look at the fixture list.

Next up is Arsenal, who apparently aren’t a bad side; Liverpool, back in form after their win against Manchester United at Old Trafford, and lastly, my old side Blackburn, who have shown some good form to pull away from the relegation zone.

As we approach these games, we have been buoyed by the great news Mikael Forssell has extended his loan from Chelsea for another season.

I spoke with him about it on Tuesday and he’s really pleased to be staying at St Andrews. He has the attitude of ‘If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.’ Our club seems to suit him, and so there was no reason for him to look elsewhere. Mikael has been absolutely brilliant for us this season.

If you look at the goalscoring charts, with 17 goals so far, he has actually scored more in the Premiership than any of the strikers back at Chelsea, which include Mutu, Crespo, Gudjohnsen and Hasselbaink.

Hopefully he can get a few more for us in the next three games.
