Former Old Trafford favourite David Beckham tells the Daily Mail that "I miss people from Manchester United and I miss Ruud Van Nistelrooy and a lot of the players."
World Cup-winner Roberto Carlos believes that Arsenal have what it takes to be crowned kings of Europe this season, claiming in the Sun: "Arsenal are a dangerous team and are certainly a major threat in the competition.
"They are one of the favourites, not just for the English League, but also for the Champions League."
The Daily Mirror reports that the Saints board have given chairman Rupert Lowe the green light to appoint Glenn Hoddle as the club’s new manager.
Sunday
Colonel Gaddafi is looking to invest in an English top-flight club, with Everton, Leeds United, Aston Villa, Bolton Wanderers and Manchester City all on the Libyan supremo’s short list, suggest the People.
Skipper David Beckham has nominated Ledley King as his "man of the match" in England’s recent international friendly with Portugal, as well as suggesting that the defender’s encouraging performance "could mean that England don't feel Rio Ferdinand's absence."
And, the midfield player also had words of encouragement for King’s partner at the heart of the Three Lions defence in the Algarve, Gareth Southgate. "I also think he can do the job, because for me he's been playing really well for Middlesbrough week in, week out. When Gareth plays for England he does really well." (Sunday Mirror)
A whole host of yesterday’s red-tops revealed that Liverpool are allegedly lining up ex-manager Kenny Dalglish to replace the under fire Gérard Houllier, but only if the Frenchman first decides to call it a day at Anfield.
Monday
The Sun reports that David Beckham was given a standing ovation by the 73,000 who attended last night’s La Liga encounter with Celta Vigo in the Spanish capital.
The England international helped Real Madrid recover from a 1-0 half-time deficit by laying on two goals after the interval in the Spanish champions’ 4-2 win.
Liverpool manager Gérard Houllier tells the Daily Star that there is nothing to worry about as far as Three Lions front man Michael Owen’s recent run in front of goal is concerned.
Joseph Blatter believes that "a solution" will be found so as not to disrupt this season’s FA Cup final with a friendly between France and Brazil that is scheduled to take place in Paris two days before the Cardiff finale. "The coaches of Brazil and France know the problems of club colleagues over releasing players," added the president of world football’s governing body Fifa. (Sun)
Tales from the tabs
The Daily Star reports that Chelsea have lined up an end-of-season raid on the Santiago Bernabéu, with David Beckham, Ronaldo, Raúl González, Luís Figo and Roberto Carlos all on the Blues’ wish list.
Steve Bruce will replace Christophe Dugarry, who has been struggling all season with a knee injury, with Steed Malbranque, suggests the Sunday Mirror, who also allege that Werder Bremen are interested in Jesper Grønkjær. But, club-mate Mario Melchiot will not be following the winger out of Stamford Bridge in the summer having turned down a move to Feyenoord, claims the same paper.
The People says that England front man Emile Heskey has agreed to a £4.5m transfer to Middlesbrough next season, while Manchester United could be set to purchase Carlos Tevez, dubbed the "new Maradona" in Argentina, according to the same paper.
The People also reveals that Alan Curbishley will invest all of the £10m that Charlton Athletic received fromthe recent sale of Scott Parker to Chelsea, on Andy Reid and Carlton Cole, who is currently on loan at the club from the Blues.
Former England international Les Ferdinand has decided to hang up his boots in the summer, reports the News of the World, who also suggest that current Three Lions striker Alan Smith will leave Elland Road if the club are relegated in May.
The Daily Star Sunday alleges that Turkey international Muzzy Izzet, who is out of contract at the end of the season, is a summer transfer target for Spurs, while the same paper claims that one-time England full back Graeme Le Saux is set to join forces again with Millwall manager Dennis Wise, who captained the player during their time together at Chelsea.
Forward Nwankwo Kanu has opted to take a reduction in wages in order to remain at Highbury beyond the summer, say various Sunday tabloids, while the Sunday Express reveals that the Nigerian’s former Highbury team-mate, Marc Overmars, may return to the Premiership next season having asked to leave Barcelona.
