German keeper Kwiatkowski (left) saves in front of Hungarian forward Puskas in 1954

There was an extraordinary scoreline in one of last night's Carling Cup Second Round ties.
Wycombe Wanderers of League Two held a 3-1 advantage at half-time against Premiership Aston Villa at Causeway Stadium - but ended up losing 8-3!
Villa netted four times inside a quarter of an hour midway through the second half. Amongst the goals were England full cap Gareth Barry and James Milner from the Under-21s. They scored a brace each.
The most famous 8-3 scoreline, not that there have been that many, came in the first game of a World Cup "double header" in Switzerland in 1954.
Hungary, captained by the legendary Ferenc Puskas, had beaten England 6-3 at Wembley and were thought to be invincible when they began their Finals campaign.
In their second game in Group 2 they thrashed West Germany 8-3 before a spellbound 53,000 crowd in Basle. Puskas got one, Kocsis four and Hidegkuti - England's chief tormentor in '53 - weighed in with two.
Two weeks later the teams met again - this time in the Final itself in Berne. The Magical Magyars were 2-0 up in eight minutes, a clearly unfit Puskas opening the scoring, but the Germans fought back to win 3-2!
