Norwich City manager Nigel Worthington today starts his bi-weekly column on TheFA.com. He will share his 'managers' slot' with another English league boss, to be unveiled next week.
It's been an interesting week for me. Starting this column for TheFA.com has coincided with my being named as the Nationwide Division One Manager of the Month for September and us extending our unbeaten run at Carrow Road to five games with victory over Reading.
We've had a very good month, it's true, but I can only take part of the credit. The players have worked very hard and for me it's about them and not the managers. Without them the manager is nothing so the players should take much of the praise. I'm very pleased to get the award though, but as I say, our success is down to team-work both on and off the pitch. Everyone at Norwich is working extremely hard towards a goal, and the award is a mark of our achievements so far.
I have been asked whether it could be a curse or perhaps that it will put more pressure on me as a manager, but I'm one of those blokes who takes every day as it comes and whatever is meant to be will be. At Old Trafford, Sir Alex has won these kinds of awards over and over again. He remains in his job and continues to be successful, so maybe I'll follow in his footsteps and try to keep winning games.
Our success has been helped by the influx of some talented players we've brought in on loan. We've got Darren Huckerby, Peter Crouch and Kevin Harper in for three months and they've given us a great lift because they are quality Premiership players with very good clubs. And it works both ways in situations like that. Because we couldn't afford to buy them, the next best thing, if you can find them, is getting them in on loan. Meanwhile, we're putting them back onto the main stage with regular first team football, which is good for their players individually, and good from their club's point of view too.
But I'm enjoying it at Norwich. Over the last three years there has been a real buzz developing around the club again. We all remember the Premiership and European exploits of the early 90's and that excitement seems to be here once more. It's nice for the supporters who turn out in their numbers every week, home or away. Football teams need that support and I think fans deserve to get something back from the team, and through hard work and determination I feel that the group of players I've got here are doing that. They are wearing the shirt with pride and long may that continue.
We've now got a trip to Wigan ahead of us and on Saturday we'll be in for a very tough game. They are just above us at the moment, and are there on merit. They've won their games and will be looking to add us to their list of scalps. It should be a good match, but we need to show the determination we have shown during recent fixtures. After that we can enjoy a few days off with the internationals next week. I'm heading for a short break in Italy...
On Wednesday we introduced the first of our players' columnists,
