As is so often the case Hakan Sukur was the goalscoring hero, scoring twice in the Westfalenstadion to take Galatasaray up into third place in Group D.

The game had been postponed by a week and moved to the home of Borussia Dortmund after recent terrorist trouble in the Turkish capital.

Sukur got his first goal a couple of minutes after the half-time interval when he scored with a well-timed near-post header.

The forward then scored deep into injury time to make sure that the 2000 UEFA Cup winners took all three points back to Turkey.

Juventus, fielding a weakened team, had already qualified but are still not certain of winning the group. Should they lose their last match and Real Sociedad win, the Basque side would top the section.

Galatasaray now travel to Spain and need to beat Real to ensure that they go through. Raynald Denoueix's side, who finished runners-up to Real Madrid in last season's Spanish championship, need just as draw to qualify.
